And it starts again...

First day of school - the kids were up early, they followed the routine we had gone over at Family Home Evening the night before, rooms were straightened, showers taken, hair done, scriptures read, and lunches packed.  It is such a mixture of excitement/anxiety - the air feels electric.
This year, along with our fellow bus stop parents, we decided to start the morning with an outdoor breakfast.  The kids were more than happy to munch on kolaches, donuts, and fruit while they checked out who they would be hanging out with every morning.  Cade and Brett live for the the routine of going to the bus stop and were more than happy to once again run down the street in their pajamas and play with the big kids.  The bus was late this morning and as the temperature began to rise closer to today's high of 108, everyone began looking for relief/distraction.

Mike returned from his morning meeting and got out the beloved golf cart, whisking those kids around the neighborhood - they LOVED it!  Cade's new word is "gof cart" and he asks for it ALL day long.

When that bus finally came, there was a flurry of kisses, good wishes, and goodbyes. They are off to the adventure.  Let's hope this year of 2nd and 5th is a good one.  So far, the reports have been positive (besides that Max is afraid his class might be boring because the kids are all good).  But great teachers, kids they know, and an air conditioned bus.

What a fun neighborhood! I have never seen that done in our neighborhood on the first day of school. We might have to start that tradition of treats and fun once the C man starts kindergarten.
