Rats!

Last weekend, the we began our day with one of Max's early soccer games. Max has improved so much this season and really has fun. We love watching him.

So after soccer, Max invites a friend over to play and they get in our pool. I am watching from the window - ready to go out and before I know it they are back at the door. Luke (the friend) tells me he thinks there is a huge black rat in the pool with red eyes. My stomach turns but I do what moms must do - go out to the corner of the pool to check things out. Sure enough - monster rat is in our pool and he is alive - swimming around in the corner trying to get out. I am doing all I can not to gag - but I am totally disgusted.

I have the worst fear/dislike/repulsion of rats ever! It goes back to my days as a missionary in Japan when I lived in a tiny rat invested apartment and couldn't sleep at night for fear that massive rats would run across my face as I slept on the floor. That experience was SO bad and those rats were so huge that well, I think I am scarred for life. Anyway, I immediately ran in the house - totally freaking out and yelling frantically for Mike. He gets a net to fish the rat out and because the rat is climbing up the pole, Mike decides to try and catapult it over the fence. He FAILS! Now I am almost crying. I have images of rat families and nests taking over my backyard. Mike finally did hunt the rat down and kill it - only after realizing I wasn't going to have it any other way. For Max and his friend the whole experience was the highlight of their day. It was definitely way too much excitement for me.

Oh, Mimi! I am totally rolling at your story. What a hoot! Were the kids willing to get back in the pool after all that?

Yeah! A new posts. Dis-gust-ing!! I would have my whole pool disinfected. What did you do?

I was totally disgusted and while Max and friend did want to jump back into the pool, there was no way I was allowing it. The guy that cleans the pool said one rat is no big deal but I made sure he did a shock treatment on the pool.
