This past Friday we found ourselves with a wide open day - lately I've been too tired to muster up the energy for a big excursion but we had heard about a place to pick strawberries and decided we'd better try it out before the season was past. It ended up being "FOREVER" away - 45 minutes in the car was not quite what I had imagined - thank goodness for DVD players. We got there just in time for the heat of the day - good thing there was a bit of a breeze. Upon checking in the woman looked at me and said, "Are you going to be alright? I mean, that's not going to fall out, is it?" I was a little taken off guard and then realized she was referring to my very pregnant stomach - but I assured her it would not "just fall out" and preceded to the fields.
Kenna and Brett helped pick berries for a few minutes and then found the flowers, sandy dirt, and water bottles much more entertaining. That's ok, I found enough for all of us - I love searching for the perfect red berries - it feels like a sort of treasure hunt and I am always plopping a berry in thinking, "just one more". We ended up with almost 7 lbs of berries and they are so YUM!! Brett started sampling them out in the field and I expected him to spit them right out seeing as he will NEVER eat strawberries. Surprise, surprise - he ate them (lots) stem and all! So far we've had strawberry ice cream, pancakes, smoothies, salads, etc. and sadly they are almost gone. It's going to be tough going back to those not-so-sweet grocery store strawberries.

Those. Look. So. Yummy. I'm starting to crave them just seeing those pics :) You're doing great to get out and bending down to pick berries - that's impressive!
