Lesson Learned???

Last week in the franticness of dropping Max off for a basketball game (I wrote down the wrong time and he made it for the last 30 seconds instead of being on time), changing Cade's dirty diaper, trying to keep the kids from taking every toy and basketball out of the car, attempting to keep them close so we could head into the gym - during all of this, I lost track of Brett and Cade for an instant and found they had moved too far from our car as they bounced their basketballs and were right in the path of an oncoming car.  I whisked those boys up and in desperation yelled - "Stop!  You have to stop!  You have to stay by mommy! There are cars and it's not safe.  I am not trying to be mean - I just don't want you to die!"  I was overly dramatic and kind of scary - Cade immediately started bawling. Mike was gone all week on a ski vacation as well and let's just say I was feeling quite frazzled and not quite good enough at handling anything at the moment.  So I lost it and then I cried.  Oh, motherhood!
BUT ever since then, Cade stops before running from the car, is now grabbing my hand, and earnestly reminds me, "Gotta watch out - de cars".  As I run here and there, over and over he repeats, "gotta watch out, gotta watch out".
I do wish I was more mellow and even-tempered but maybe everyone once in a while, my children do learn something from my desperation.  I am so glad now we now know we "gotta wash (watch) out".

I tell Colton that I don't want him to die too. Perhaps we are a little dramatic, but it doesn't seem like my kiddo "gets it" unless I am really persuasive. I do love that pic of Cade. He's one cool dude.
