Nativity

Every Christmas Eve we act out the Christmas story - it is a pretty casual event but one that I hope my kids will remember so that when they think about Christmas, it will be more than Santa, reindeer, and gifts.  This year our friends, the Danners joined us.  They had recently been to Egypt and had great costume additions and real frankincense and myr - so great!  Our baby Jesus wasn't quite as peaceful and calm as the baby he was representing, but the kids did their best and we all enjoyed it.  The play was followed by birthday pies for Jesus complete with singing and candles. Not quite like the reverent night so long ago, but in this small way, we attempt to remember that Jesus is really the reason for the season.
