Some Sunny Day

The remaining Smith kids - Mom, Dean, Laurence, Keith, David, Brian, Scott
Well, Grandma managed to do it.  She brought almost her whole big family together.  Cousins and other relatives I hadn't seen in a long, long time were all there to pay tribute to a great lady.   People drove, flew, and came in from all over because Grandma loved them and made them feel at home.  So where did we all want to go when we heard that she was no longer here?  To her home.  I know that now she is truly HOME with her beloved husband, daughter, and so many others and I am happy for that.  But I am also grateful that she stayed at this earthly home for so long and blessed us with her love and beauty.

Grandma had her funeral well planned out complete with an upbeat song accompanied by a ukulele (so her!) that admonished us to keep smiling because we'll meet again some sunny day.  We (her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) also sang "Where Love Is" - a song she helped write when she served on the Church's Primary Board.  The remarks shared were heartfelt and enlightening, and left me looking at some of her life's achievements and challenges in a new way.  How I love and admire this woman!  While we were together to say a good-bye of sorts, she lives on in our hearts.  Grandma, for now I will do my best to enjoy the place that I am at, but also look forward to seeing you again some sunny day.

That was a beautiful tribute, and gorgeous pictures. I think of your Grandma every time I sing "Where Love Is " in Primary.

Mimi, I had no idea that your grandmother passed away. I will always remember her as a "sunny" person too! Beautiful post.

Can it really be this long since I've been on your blog? I lost your URL a while back when changing my template. I lost my entire bloglist. So I'm just catching up. So sorry about your sweet grandma. My, she was quite the lady! Doug's grandmother just passed away last week, so I was interested in this post. Sweet tribute to her. It's hard to see this generation go. They are amazing individuals. Hope all is well Mimi. Are you coming to Salt Lake during the holidays by chance?
