I'm starting to think my house is better than a zoo. Today I saw something outside our front door and told the kids, "Look - there's a..."(I thought it was a cat but then I saw that long ringed skinny tale) - it was an ARMADILLO! Really I was so excited, I have only seen huge ones in the zoo or dead ones on the road. I ran outside to get a better look and dragged Kenna and Brett out with me too. Something about these strange animals intrigues me - it was just a little one but I was still so excited. I mean really, have you ever seen an animal like this? It made my day. Finally after 7 years in TX, I have seen a real armadillo in my very own yard!

My attempt at a picture - it was hiding.

Someone else's picture of the whole animal

Armadillos are one of my favorites! We see them in Florida ALL the time. In fact, we were in the hot tub a few weeks ago and one wandered by. I think Ryan thinks he lives in a foreign country with all the new bugs/animals down there. He was thrilled about it!
Very cool! We have the "armor-less" armadillo's here....better known as opposums. They are mostly seen as road-kill, but every now and then I'll spot one and be like..."LOOK! It's a opposum and it's ALIVE!" ha ha
