Busted

After our first swim meet, Mike took Max and Cade to the lake to try out his new jet ski.  They had a blast until the very end when Max jumped off the jet ski thinking he was in deep water with a soft bottom.  Not the case.  He landed HARD on foot which quickly connect with shallow cement ramp.  The impact caused his ankle to swell up like a grapefruit and there was no walking around on it.  We called the cub master to let him know that Max would not be at his Arrow of Light ceremony and he laid low the rest of the weekend.  Monday was a rounds of Dr's and x-rays which showed a very bad sprain.  He has gone back to school with crutches but it is the last week and the timing is just no good.  No PE, no recess participation, needing assistance to get to classes, and then there was the 5th grade party!
Max went thinking he could do something but when I got there to volunteer, I could see how truly miserable he was.  The splashpad was out, volleyball and soccer were out, inflatable water slides out, playground out - so just about everything.  I did coax him into a donut eating contest but after that he sat in the shade with my phone.  Once my volunteer shift was done, he high-tailed it out of there and lamented the fact that this is a terrible time to have a busted ankle.  Poor kid, he's trying to be tough - he even swam butterfly in his relay (allowing them still to ribbon) and back after only a week after the injury but the pain that caused left him incapacitated for the rest of the day.  This is no fun for any of us, we are praying everyday that it gets better soon.
