Life's a Beach

The beach is only about 1 1/2 hours away from us but because we spend our water time on the lake boating, we haven't traveled to the beach in YEARS.  But some friends thought it would be fun to take our kids and head down so we packed cars and lunches and were off.  It was wonderful!  Great weather, small crowds, and great easy access from our cars.  The kids jumped over the waves for hours, played in the sand, and enjoyed countless snacks.  The older kids loved the boogie boards that Emily brought and spent all their time trading off and riding the waves in.  We stayed until the sugar sand coated our bodies and the younger kids began to unravel as tiredness set in.  With the help of water and baby powder, we cleaned off and began our trek home.  Max loved the old mansions not too far from the water and declared that they reminded him of the house in Clue.  We'll have to go back and explore them sometime - I'm thinking a weekend here would be perfect.  We headed home, worried that we would miss my parents who were flying in to see us.  Unfortunately for them, their flight was delayed 10 hours.  We hated the fact that they got in so late but we were very glad we had not put off our beach day in order to meet their originally scheduled flight.  Because today, really was a great summer day.
